Mossley vs NICS
Premier League 28/01/17
The 1st XI made the trip to Stormont on Friday night to take on NICS. Sitting on level points in the league and having both played 7 matches this was set to be a close tie with a valuable 3 points on offer.
NICS started the better of the two sides and some early pressure saw NICS put pressure on the Mossley defence and call keeper Owen Doole into action. The pressure told when NICS were awarded a penalty corner from which they made no mistake of converting with a drag flick, which was stopped on the line by David Glenny before the attacker pounced on the loose ball from close range.
Mossley fought their way into the match a pulled level through Jordan Robinson who fired in from a tight angle after his initial effort was parried away by the goalkeeper. Mossley were dealt another blow when NICS converted another penalty corner and took a 2-1 lead to the half time break.
At the start of the second half a long pass by NICS into the circle called Doole into action but Service were the first to react to the loose ball and convert from close range leaving Mossley trailing 3-1. With 15 minutes remaining Simon Todd pulled a goal back for Mossley with a smart finish on his reverse which gave the Newtownabbey hope of snatching something from the game, however their hopes were dashed when NICS converted another penalty corner to seal the win 4-2.
Saturday saw the 2nd XI claim a 2-1 win versus NICS 2nd XI with Mark Watson and Rory Laverty scoring. The 3rd XI lost 4-1 to Cookstown 4th XI with Jamie Watt scoring the solitary goal for Mossley. The 4th XI won 2-1 against Campbellians 2nd XI with Josh Tyrrell and Mark Fleck the scorers. The 5th XI claimed a 7-1 victory against Antrim 3rd XI with goals from Jonny Ramsey (2), Stewart McClean, Owen McAuley, Gavin Weir, Raymond Longman and Peter Farr.
