Mountain Ash Athletic 10 Bargoed II 41
Mel Davies 2nd XV Cup Final
Mountain Ash RFC Athletic and Bargoed II contested the final of the Mel Davies Cup – a competition for Club 2nd XVs - at Duffryn Pennar Park.
A good crowd witnessed a competitive game with the Mount forwards doing well all round. The main difference was behind where the visitors were lethal in their execution of try scoring opportunities, going over for six tries in total to the Old Firm’s one, to run out 41-10 winners.
Replacement second row, Scott Collins got the Mount try in the second half, which was converted by outside half Matthew Parfitt. Hard though the Old Firm tried, pressurising the Bargoed defence on numerous occasions, the visitors were well organised and repelled all attacks.
This defeat for Mount was no disgrace as Bargoed II have been head and shoulders above all sides in the Rhondda and East Glamorgan District this season.
Mount’s season is far from finished though as the team is currently top of the District’s East Division, and have a great chance to win the Division for the first time.
