We're about a quarter of the way through the season now and there's lot's going on so I thought I'd take this opportunity to get it all written down somewhere other than Facebook...
The season so far
On the pitch results haven't been what we want so far but recently, numbers to training have been good and the standard of training has been improving, which I'm confident will transfer to wins on Saturdays soon!
From where we were as a club at pre season, it feels like we've come a long way. We've got a great coaching team in Arran, Ewen, Ralf and Keith (who has played for the firsts, coached the twos and run fitness on Thursday's!).
We've also got a good crop of lads up from the colts this year as well as a good influx of new and returning faces at all levels which all bodes well for the rest of the season.
Vacancy
We're still looking out for a manager for the 1st and 2nd teams, someone who can help the coaches with the prep and organisation each week. We've got by so far but it would be great to get those posts filled. So if you are that person or you know someone who could commit, get in touch and let us know!
Thirsty Thursday
It's been a long few weeks, but the next thirsty Thursday is on the 30th of October. This time food is FREE when you buy something from the bar; soft, alcoholic or otherwise.
Players Committee
At the start of the season a number of people volunteered for the players committee and it's been a while since we got together so let's try and have a chat at thirsty Thursday next week. You know who you are, I'll be in touch!
Halloween
There hasn't been a Halloween do organised this year as the club was originally booked out on the Saturday night but now it's free. If anyone wants to step up and get something organised on Sat Nov 1st, please do so! It's a bit short notice so even if we don't do anything for Halloween, the 1sts and 2nds are at home so I'm sure we can make a good night of it anyway!
Hogmanay
It's looking increasingly likely that the club is going to be open at Hogmanay but the more people who attend, the better it will be. If you are interested please let Jimmy Reilly know ASAP. £15 will get you entry, food a dj and the drinks will be the same price as the rest of the year, so cheaper than town!
GDC Touch and wine tasting
All sections of the club have been challenged with running an event that will raise £500 for the junior section and the gentleman's dining club are running their touch and wine tasting on Friday the 14th of November to this end. Posters are up around the club for more info and currently according to the SRU website we don't have a fixture that weekend... Arnie Yule, put me right if that's not true!
Fill the club
On Saturday the 22nd of November Scotland are playing Tonga in Kilmarnock. It's undoubtedly the poorest Scotland fixture this autumn but maybe our only chance for a win! There are other internationals on that day as well so we want to try and fill the club and make a good day of it. Currently no fixture that day and the women have no fixture on the Sunday so no reason why we can't make a decent social out of it!
Former colts
Sometime over the festive period we'd like to try and organise a game between last years colts (this can be stretched to former colts in general to help with numbers if needs be) and the rest of the club who are around at Christmas, so let me know your availability. Roger Goldie has promised free beer for this and you can't say fairer than that so let me know if you're around at Xmas...
Thankyou's
There's lots of effort going-on on and off the pitch just now so big thanks to everyone involved so far. Special mention to the sponsors who have paid for the polo shirts this year and also Craig Douglas who has sponsored the man of the match awards.
As I said, lots going on! Keep getting down to training and I'm confident the results will come on Saturday soon.
