Thank you and Happy New Year

Thank you and Happy New Year image

I am going to use the website for my own selfish purposes to say thank you and Happy New Year to everyone.

Happy New Year fellow Wanderers!

In many ways it has been a great season so far and if everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself.

The 1st XV have seen considerable success with the addition of some excellent new players and ever growing commitment from usual faces along with a little help from Bruce and Cakes. Scoring over 500 points in 13 league games is impressive in anyone’s book.

We have a large stable of players and the 2XV are going from strength to strength with some younger players really starting to come of age and in 2012 will be keeping the 1XV on their toes.

The re-introduction of the 3XV in 2011 was vital and gives the club another feather in its cap, so many clubs struggle to get 2 teams out and we have lad’s queuing for a chance of a game.

The Ladies team are involved in so many aspects and their attitude on and off the pitch towards the club always impresses.

It is also great to see the very familiar faces down each Saturday supporting, come hell or high weather they are always there and many are now player sponsors and hopefully enjoy the rugby as much as we do.

We have a big support function with the committee working hard in the background keeping us on the straight and narrow and planning for the future. Then there is the bar staff, who are basically superb and Smugders cheery face never fails to lighten the mood after a tough session on the pitch and Fiona's scran on a Thursday night has been enjoyed and appreciated by the masses.

2012 provides a lot to look forward too; the run in to the end of the season will be fantastic and although we are in a position of strength now we will finish stronger. Then there are tons of Socials planned and the Six Nations always gives a great atmosphere and we hope to continue and reinforce our charity and community efforts.

There is interest from many in the senior side to help within the mini and midi sections and we will see a few of them step up soon as ball boys and mascots.

Things are looking promising and it is not just the results that make this the club what it is, it is the individual commitment from everyone that makes it work; the spirit to start something, see it through and help your pals along the way.

Again, Happy New Year and thank you everyone, as for Wanderers I have a sneaky feeling it’ll be a good one for us!
