The game had been transferred to Murrayfield because of a waterlogged pitch. Inverleith turned up with 12, which had reduced to 10 by the time the game was due to kick off!! But well done to them for turning up and giving us a good game. We had spare players so were able to balance the teams, 15v15. Game on.

I was confident with the players we had and was looking forward to a win but, MWFC didn’t start very well as Inverleith took the game to us and it was actually against the run of play that our 2nd oldest player on the park - Johnny Laing - ran from 55yds to score MWFC’s first try of the day. JL in the bar tried to say he collected the ball in his own 22, but we know better! Yogi converted to make the score 7-0.

Credit to Inverleith and the MWFC players who played for them that the game for the next 15 mins was very close and it took some time before MWFC flexed their muscle and took charge. Jimmy Johnston made a good break from a poor defensive kick and ran through some heavy traffic before being brought down where the forwards took over and controlled the next 2 phases, ending with Davie Oliver going over for MWFC's 2nd try.

The next 3 tries were scored and converted by Yogi who went on a one-man rampage through the defence of Inverleith. He was in my mind possibly the man of the match but his team mates felt he show boated a bit so he was nominated for the Dick of the Day prize instead!! (Nae luck, Yogi!). I must admit if he hadn’t smoothed his hair down when he went over for his 3rd try he would have won the Man of the Match! Let's be honest, he did make 2 particularly good breaks to score. Keith Harrhy was my nomination for dick of the day as he took the ball into contact and gave it away as he clutched his twangy hammy and Inverleith ran 60yrds to score a try.

Half time 26-7.

We changed around the team and brought back our loaned players to pull on the jersey of MWFC and some others very sportingly played for Inverleith. One such player was Keith Law (he was the oldest on the park for us by the way) who has now played for more teams in Scotland than any other player I know! (Editor's note: Davey obviously doesn't know Chas Campbell!!). Keith is a MWFC man through and through as he paid his subs on Saturday. So did I by the way!

4 tries were scored in the first half but the floodgates opened in the second, where 7 tries were scored.

J Laing got 2 as did Tyler Lovitt who seems to be enjoying his rugby again and played a massive part in driving MWFC forward at every turn. J Johnston also scored twice and we have to mention it was his B’day. Jimmy Whitehouse got 1 and Craig Hepburn very skilfully drop kicked a conversion.

Man of the match was Mark Dow who made a fair number of rumbles up the centre of the field making good yardage. He did ask me if I had seen his offload on one of them? I hadn’t but who was I to say that (have you seen the size of him!!!)

On a negative note, 4 missed tackles resulted in Inverleith scoring their well-deserved 2nd try. They didn’t lie down for one minute of this game and we have to applaud them for their efforts. MWFC still have work to do in the tackling aspect of our game, it must improve! Another point to note is that players must start to be more aware of supporting players around them when going forward. If you carry the ball in 2 hands you can off load quicker and not get the ball caught up and lose momentum.

Thanks to Adam Fergie and Gordon Bird who played the whole game for Inverleith and also thanks to the many others (I can’t remember all who played, its my age!!) who, pulled on the Inverleith jersey to make it a game.

Next week is another home match, this time v Royal High Cougars, so get down to training and keep up the good work you are putting in.
