Report from Davey Dewar.

A local friendly match (is there such a thing) against Forrester’s 2nds/3rds + legends. I call them legends but I’m being polite here as I could call them “auld buggers” easily as well! I can remember playing against some of them many years ago. Applause to the legends of Forrester’s to be still playing. Well done to the auld buggers!

The start of the game was a bit untidy from both sides and it took a while to settle down. Unfortunately once it settled, it was MWFC who had to work very hard in defence against a, how can I say, team with a little bit more nounce.

They were the first to score a converted try following some good work from their forwards even though at this point we defended well.

A second converted try quickly followed for Forrester’s, who were at this point building up a head of steam. MWFC didn’t sit back and tried very hard to come back into the game. We did come back with a good break out from Robbie Stewart at 10 up the left side. It set up a good platform that the forwards kept going. Martin Kershaw was the driving force in this move, keeping the forwards going which resulted in a try for MWFC. In my excitement I am unable to say who scored the try. OK, I will fine myself for this lapse in noticing who scored. Davie Oliver stepped up to convert.

Half time 7-14.

At the start of the second half, I had hope we could come back into the game. Unfortunately that was not to be, even though “Tyler Lovitt” my man of the match for MWFC tried his heart out. Must mention Iain Nicol who had a very hard shift at no. 9 not his normal position but stuck in brilliantly. Well done Ian.

I must say, though, that throughout the match there was some unbelievable gamesman’s ship from Forrester’s, especially at line outs with crazy shouting going on and a demented midget at the tail of the line out jumping about trying to put off our players. They didn’t need to do this in this friendly match. In the good old days they would have been sorted out. Hence the point earlier they had more “nounce” than us!

The ref took some berating from the support on the touch-line but he in my opinion was correct in not rewarding a score to Forrester’s even though they had crossed MWC line. It was inconclusive. The ref was right. From the resulting scrum though, Forresters scored a try they did deserve.

Craig Hepburn was sin binned for a late shoulder charge on his opposite wing. It was just frustration from him. I did ask after the match if he meant it. His smile said it all! Ieuan Webb also got in on the act of a late shoulder charge by hitting the Forrester no10. He complained he was hit in the face by Ieuan’s shoulder. It was not a worry, as it didn’t affect his good looks, as he didn’t have any to start with!

A well-deserved victory for Forrester’s, that we can’t complain too much about, as they did play some very good attacking rugby and rightly won the game 7-48.

Next week game v Livingston. Let's leave this one behind. Do not take too much from it and focus on Livingston. Back to the hard work on training nights gents!
