On arrival at Arbour Park the sun was out and the temperature was up into double figures, yet by kick off at 7.45pm the bitter winter had kicked in and it was as cold as 'brass monkeys' but just 4 minutes into the game the cold night was erased from Rebels minds.
Against an attacking Weymouth side who had netted 17 goals in their last 4 away games, four minutes was all that was needed fr Slough to take the lead. Weymouth captain Zubar fouled James in the penalty area and JAMES stepped up to place the resulting kick high into the corner of the goal 1-0.
The early goal forced the visitors onto the attack but the Rebel backline held firm and thwarted the opposition at every opportunity, while taking the game to the 'Terras'. In fact the Weymouth keeper McHale kept the score down with an outstanding double save from Flood then Williams, meaning the Rebels went into half time only 1-0 up.
The second half saw Slough dominate from the whistle and were on the front foot, creating chances at will and only had to wait 7 minutes into the half before extending the lead. Good build up lay by the opposition was stopped by the rebels who quickly countered and Dunn played an inch perfect pass allowing FLOOD to fire home without breaking stride 2-0.
Slough continued with flowing football and really should have scored a couple more but could only add one more as JAMES headed home a Dunn corner form fully 16 yards to give Slough a comfortable 3-0 victory. So emphatic was the game that the first real effort from the visitors came just after the 3rd Rebel goal and their 2nd shot, also blazed off target, came on 91 minutes.
This was a fine performance from the Rebels with every player having a good game and saw a return to a run of clean sheets, next up for Slough is another trip to St Ives as we come up against Cambridge City for the third time this season.
