Match Report: Metropolitan Police (Pre-Season)
A late brace from Lench gives Rebels the win. Now undefeated in four pre-season games
1 - 0 (Lench, 75m); 1 - 1 (Willock, 76m) ; 2 - 1 (Lench, 78m)
The game against Isthmian Premier Division side Metropolitan Police was typical slow-paced friendly fare until the last quarter of an hour when it was bought to life in stunning fashion.
There was little action in a first 45 minutes which unsurprisingly ended goalless and not a lot changed in a second half that was only really notable for substitutions and passing errors until Lench let fly with a thunderous strike from 22 yards into the top corner on 75 minutes.
Almost instantly, unmarked substitute Callum Willock, a one time Premier League player with Fulham, planted a free header past stand-in keeper Mohammed Mostofa to level the scores.
The three minutes of madness wasn’t quite over though, as Lench grabbed his second firing home following a cut back from Brad Wadkins.
It was another good warm up for the Rebels who, next Saturday, play host to Premier League West Bromwich Albion in a testimonial for club physio and legend Kevin McGoldrick at what will hopefully be a sold out Arbour Park.
