Myton Come Out On Top In Tough Derby Encounter
Myton Warriors made it 2 away wins in a row after turning round a 6 - 2 deficit at half time to win 6 - 16.
MYTON Warriors coach Tony Spence was full of praise for his side after their 16-6 derby win at Hull Dockers.
Dockers had got off to a better start in the opening exchanges as the home side capitalised on some simple mistakes.
With his Myton side trailing 6-2 at the half-time break, Spence told his troops they needed to show a response and he was delighted to see the momentum shift their way in a dominant second period.
An interception try from Carl Booth, goaled by Ash James, put them 8-6 ahead and another penalty increased that further.
When Mark Spence crashed over for a try just minutes after coming on, Myton were in full control and another penalty from James made the scoreline safe.
Spence said: "We were always confident that if we went behind, we had the ability to fightback and that's exactly what we did.
"At half-time, we spoke about the little things we were doing wrong, like making basic errors, and said we had to cut them out to get our way back into the game.
"We also knew we had to show better line speed, value the ball more and play percentage rugby, which eventually paid off."
With the best defensive record in the Premier Division and three games in hand on most of their rivals, third-placed Myton need to keep their form going into the latter stages of the season.
But with international call-ups about to cause some disruption, Spence knows they won't have it all their own way.
He added: "There are some tough times coming up for us, but we are a side which is full of confidence at the moment.
"However, we are not counting our chickens and we know we're going to need to utilise our squad to the full to stay up there."
