Cracking start to the new year
Nailsea & Backwell 2nd XV 106 Yate 1st XV 8
N&B start the new year at a blistering pace.
From the off N&B were up for the return of league Rugby after the festive break. From the opening phase Josh Collins kicked a penalty to the corner, from the resulting line out the maul was secured and moved forward allowing Adam Grafton to peel off and crash through two tackles to open the scoring. Josh Collins added the extras. Shortly after with forwards domination Will Marley crashed through the middle setting up quick ball which was spread wide through the hands with Josh Le Ouedec finishing the move in the corner. Straight from the Kick Off N&B again moved the ball wide to Harry Marshall for another Collins converted Try. After a little Yate pressure which was held out by N&B defence slow ball was turned into attack with the ball spread wide to Harry Marshall who sprinted in from 60m to score the bonus point Try with Collins adding the extras. From the Kick Off N&B secured the ball again moving it wide to Marshall who upon contact offloaded to the ever supporting Harvey Flower who ran in a further Try from halfway, Collins again added the extras. The Fifth N&B Try came after good forwards and backs interplay the in form Ben Perfect broke through the middle to cross the line. Yate again regathered and as the game was uncontested scrums with Yate having bare numbers they turned territory into points with there only Try scored from a blindside move. This only stirred N&B into action adding further Tries through Le Ouedec and Will Marley for a 52-8 halftime lead.
N&B made changes emptying the bench but never weakened as they dominated the second half with further Tries through Ben Perfect and then Collins grabbing a Try of his own before Perfect again breached the defence for his hatrick. Then came a moment of brilliance when Collins cross field Kick was perfectly placed for the sprinting Dom Gordon to gather and crash over out wide. Next up Captain Ryan Love showed his strength to crash through for another. Although Yate never gave up and continued to play with pride the game was finished off with another Le Ouedec Try for his hatrick Try and two Harvey Flower Tries who fully deserved his hatrick with strong line out work and support play.
The final score of 106-8 was a strong signal of how N&B can play fifthteen man Rugby when they go out as a Team and play concise disciplined highly skilled Rugby.
Man of the Match went to young Colt Will Marley who just shaded the tireless Steve Izod.
