Sat 17 Feb TBC - South West Division - Tribute Somerset 3 North Full time

Nailsea & Backwell 2nd xv 18 - Avonmouth 2nd xv 35

Home side beaten in local derby

Due to the recent wet weather everyone was glad to see a bit of Sun and a good playing surface. The first quarter was deadlock with both Teams enjoying possession but neither making a major advance over the gain line. However 22 minutes in N&B lost possession on halfway and Avonmouth capitalised by running in under the posts. Josh Collins did slot a Penalty to get the Ravens off the mark but it was Avonmouth who had the final say of the half. N&B managed to run themselves out of trouble only to be turned over on halfway allowing Avonmouth to break tackles and score a second converted a Try for a 14-3 half time lead. N&B were not hitting first up tackles allowing Avonmouth to gain too much time on the ball.

The second half started in the same vain with N&B allowing Avonmouth too much freedom on the ball and 2 further easy Tries gave Avonmouth the bonus point and a 28-3 lead. Finally N&B moved up a gear and began playing Rugby as we all know they can. With the Referee beginning to penalise constant infringements N&B constantly opted for scrum time where they began to dominate. From one solid scrum the ball was moved to fly half Liam Harris who crashed over from close in to narrow the gap. Unfortunately N&B conceded a fifth Try straight from kick off allowing Avonmouth a 35-8 lead. The final quarter belonged to N&B where they dominated proceedings and from a further flurry of infringements again opted to scrummage. From one such scrum the pack drove Avonmouth over their line and although the ball popped out loose scrum half Cory Love picked up and drove over to dot down. With time running out N&B had the final say when from further forward play the ball was moved wide and replacement No 8 Darren Shinett crashed over for a third Try.

N&B will feel missed tackles stole the day but both Teams played entertaining on the edge Rugby but the final score was a disappointing 35-18 loss.

Man of the Match was shared by the young spirited Harvey Flower and the never say die Senior Darren Chidzey.
