N&B U14s Away vs Kingswood RFC
The Day We Lost the Losing Habit: A Gift to the Mums on Mother's Day!
OMG, it's finally happened! It all went wrong - our kind hearted generosity to opponents finally ceased today and the boys won their first game in 11 matches! Mega Hoo-Rah!! 5: 38 Away at Kingswood. I am sure this was a gift intended solely for all Squad Mums on Mother's Day!
For some reason, today it all clicked perfectly into position: the boys tackled well, fought with passion for the ball, supported each other, passed and intercepted the ball, ran like the clappers, dodged or barged through tackles, and even - shock! - passed the ball out to the backs! What an amazing job to extend the line by running around the back and receiving the ball twice in the same run (Joe)! Do we think this is some sort of discovery of team spirit and mutual defence, attack and support - fine attributes for any body of men, especially rugby players!
I tell you, it was a blinder of a game and all over by half time with the score at 0:38. Tries were scored by James (x2), Joe (x3) and Charlie - you made it look easy today, lads. Lewis did a great job and converted 4; he also hit the post from a kick on the edge of the pitch which was Fan-Wotsit-Tastic, mate!
Several of our players were taken off for the second half in order to let others have a go and to give the opposition a better chance. Even though we were then playing 16 men (and one curiously had a whistle), our boys held them and nearly scored several times but were fought off the line. Kingswood did score a single try which was just rewards for their solid effort, especially as they are formed from two local sides, with Walcot from Bath, and are still finding their way.
But ALL the lads played their part in the success today and it was a pleasant surprise to see them do so well after their reward-free but toil-laden season thus far. Let's hope the confidence gained will be carried forward to the tour next weekend!
Joint Men of the Match: Harry Radford for defending and Lewis Milne for his attacking play.
Thanks to our coaching team, Paul supported by Robin and the Harvey Twins, Flower and Pike to whom we extend an especially warm welcome. Harvey F will continue to coach the backs while Harvey P will focus on the forwards (where he has made such a great contribution to the U15s). Wat a great team moving forward!
Tour next weekend followed by Training. Don't forget Training this Wednesday with HF & HP pushing you hard.
All the best,
