Highland Tournament Report

Sunday the 18th and we were off to our nearest rivals Highland for their annual Tournament.

Meeting as usual at Viewfield, the weather was promising, conditions perfect for a good day. Unfortunately we had the usual injury worries, this time one of our best taken out by a rogue trampoline! Other call offs and commitments left us a little short of experience but not enthusiasm.
To the games and the P6/7s got off to a good start with a 1-1 draw against Moray. It should have been a win but for a score disallowed by the Ref for a speculative "forward pass"(this coach did v.well to hold his tongue!)sadly we lost another senior player to a sprained wrist bravely he tried to play on but the damage was done. The next few games were against Ross Sutherland, Caithness and Huntly. Our Thunderbolts battled on and played some good stuff, moving the ball well and some strong tackling. It was not enough to win those games. However for many our players it was their very first tournament and they did super well.
The p4/5s first game against Ellon was a try-fest the Thunderbolts scoring 4 but losing 6. High scoring games followed with games against Moray, Mackie and a good 4-4 draw against the hosts Highland. A scratch game against Caithness was arranged and we finished the day with a win.
All in a positive run out for the teams and with a number of tournaments coming up we look in good shape.
So lets remember those gumshields and get to training on sundays!
