1. History 1

The RNZN Rugby Football Club (“the Club”) was founded in 1952 to promote and generally advance the interests of amateur rugby football in the Royal New Zealand Navy. The Club is one of twelve that make up the North Harbour Rugby Football Union (Incorporated).

Club membership is open to any person who commits themselves to the Vision, Mission, Values and guiding principles of the Club including Armed Forces personnel on attachment with the RNZN, and other persons in the local community who wish to represent Navy Rugby.

The Club is managed as a Non-Public Fund, established under the Defence Act 1990, by the Club Committee who are elected by Club members. The Committee is responsible for the general conduct of the affairs of the Club, accounting for Club gear and assets, and controlling Club funds.

The Club has a proud history of commitment and success, and has developed a number of players who have taken their rugby to the highest level of competition including former All Black Great, Wayne (Buck) Shelford.
