Nelson made 2 changes to last weeks side with Carl Maybank returning on the wing after injury in place of Tom England, and Ryan Saddler being replaced by John Sanigar in the backrow.

Nelson started the game like a train again putting a huge fairwater side under a ton of pressure. After several good attacking sets Nelson got on the score sheets through Matthew “Peanut” Williams who scored for the second week running, Emanuelli added the extras for a 7-0 lead. Soon after the try came a change in the game with fairwater having lots of possession and Nelson making a lot of mistakes, Fairwater were next to score and deservedly so, they also added a penalty. Nelson continued to soak up the pressure against the strong wind and attacked sparingly. They then against the run of play took the lead through 2 quick penalties from Emanuelli. The lead was to be short lived as Fairwater scored again through constant forward pressure to lead 13-17. The last score of the first half came from the boot of Emanuelli with another penalty to leave Nelson trailing at half time 16-17.

The second half was a different story as Nelson had the wind behind them the game changed dramatically. Within 10 minutes of the half kicking off Nelson looked comfortable. 2 great tries came firstly through a well worked lineout and good run from Dan “Chink” Jones led to Liam “Lunk” Williams smashing over from 10 yards. The second came from a good set peace and some great handling behind before replacement scrum half come wing Iestyn “Taz” Hurn crossed over in the corner. Both conversions were added for a 30-17 lead. The game seemed to settle down from here and although Nelson only needed 1 more try to get the bonus point win it was Fairwater who got on the score sheet next after Nelson conceded several penalties to give Fairwater the opportunity. Nelson were to have the last say and get the bonus point through Ryan “Chalky” Jones with 20 minutes left to play. The try was once again well worked after a good set peace and some strong running from Peanut, Chink carved the Fairwater defence apart and sent Chalky away who finished the try well. Emanuelli added the conversion to end the day 7 from 7.

This wasn’t the performance Nelson were hoping for with a number of errors made throughout the game but yet again the result was perfect. 5 points once again achieved and Nelson will hope to continue their good form when they travel to Brecon next Saturday.
