U12 end of year Match Report

Last Sunday we travelled into UL Bohs for our end of season tour. On a perfect morning for rugby 23 NORFC players made the short trip to Annacotty. This was our first day out on a full pitch with 15 aside.

We played 2 x 30 minute halves and our replacements played the UL Bohs replacements. We switched all our replacements into the game to ensure everyone got loads of game time and experience of 15 aside rugby. This was a big challenge to a group of players completely unaccustomed to such a big field - and the coaches were naturally a little apprehensive about how things would turn out. Well they needn't have worried ..... because this team surely saved the best for last. This was the performance the coaches knew was in the team and on the biggest stage so far they delivered in style.

Our forwards really expressed themselves, fought for everything, competed fiercely at the breakdown and won ball after ball. William Fogarty at 8 and Cillian & Mikey at second row in particular catching the eye. The backs then turned on the style, with free flowing rugby epitomised by our flying winger Tadgh Gleeson, who gathered a ball on the half way line and flew over the line for the first try, which is a historic one as it was the first try at 15 aside. Our talented full back Jack O Callaghan got loads of opportunity to show his skill. and pace and culminated in him finishing the game as top try scorer, scoring 2 smashing tries. Following good work in the scrum Josh Powell dived on a loose ball and scored our 4th try. Mason and Aodhan made great runs and were both unlucky not to have scored. However the day belonged to the mighty Danny Benn who directed proceeding's from out half, led by example in tackling, have great passes and scored 3 excellent conversions.

Our headcoach Fergal then delivered an inspiring end of season speech to our players - and proceedings in Limerick were wrapped up with a rather dubious award to a long suffering team manager!!!

We then made our way to Derg Isle activity centre in Scariff, for an afternoon of fun and adventure. And when it seemed things couldn't get any better we headed to Supermacs for a feed, and washed it down with Ice cream. Our sincere thanks to Fogarty Concrete Templederry for their kind sponsorship of the meal.

As usual a big thanks to all our parents coaches helpers and most importantly our players for their commitment, help and generosity over the past season. We look forward to returning in the new season in Mid August.
