U10’s Trip to Thomond Park
21 future stars of Nenagh Ormond, 3 coaches (Nigel Maloney, Taff Jones and Paul Grafton), along with several parents headed off in 6 car loads to the mighty Thomond Park on Saturday April 15th. On arrival, we secured prime side-line positions to watch Munster come away victorious. With the benefit of a great win, we headed for home, stopped into Applegreen in Birdhill for a well-deserved feast, then touched back down in Nenagh. A great day was had by all and a big thank you to our players, coaches and especially the parents for their continued support over the season. We look forward to seeing everyone back next season!
U14s v Larne RFC
Nenagh Ormond were delighted to welcome Under 14s and Under 16s from Larne RFC to Lisatunny on Good Friday. Matches against touring teams are always great occasions and this was no exception with both sets of players showing great skill and sportsmanship and doing their clubs proud.
The Under 14s kicked off at 6pm and, despite spending long hours on a bus, Larne got the best possible start, scoring a try within minutes to go 5-0 ahead. Nenagh were slowly getting into the game and gradually winning more possession but, although they made some good forays into Larne territory, they were finding it difficult to finish scoring opportunities. Larne then regained possession and scored again, putting them ten points ahead and leaving the home side frustrated.
However, throughout this season we have seen that this Nenagh team don’t give up easily and they stayed patient, didn’t panic and kept working hard and this excellent attitude was rewarded in the second half with three superb tries. James Finn, who led by example both in defence and attack, was first to score and this was followed by a great run and finish from Dan Needham. Finn converted Needham’s try to put Nenagh ahead. The Ormond lads then pushed on and scored again when Sean Kenneally broke through the defensive line and raced to the line. Finn again converted and Nenagh looked in control.
However, Larne weren’t finished and they dug deep, the whole team putting in some great work to get them back down the pitch and over the try line. Three tries apiece was a fair reflection of what was a very even, highly competitive encounter which was played in the true spirit of rugby and was enjoyed by all.
It is always a great experience for our young players to play new opposition and meet new friends from other provinces and we would like to say a huge thank you to Gary and his team from Larne RFC for visiting us this weekend.
This game concludes the season for our Under 14 team. The coaches and management wish to thank all the players and parents for the time and effort they have put in throughout the year. Although this year didn’t see silverware coming our way, we are delighted with the progress our young players are making and we look forward to seeing you all back for the 2017/18 season.
