Hucks century lights up Parkside Road
Huck century in emphatic win
AN UNBEATEN century by Netherfield batsman John Huck guided the newly-crowned Northern League champions to an eight-wicket victory over strugglers Barrow.
Huck smashed 108 from 68 deliveries and, backed up by 50 not out by skipper Ben Barrow, Netherfield chased Barrow CC's 162 total in devastating fashion at Parkside Road.
Barrow made a positive start with the bat as Jamie Pinfold and Ryan Gilmour posted a first-wicket stand of 20.
Netherfield soon seized control when Pinfold picked out Huck off the bowling of Nathan Chambers.
The Field continued to apply the pressure when Mark Clarkson trapped Gilmour before Ben Barrow stumped Toby Mowat off the bowling of Marc Hadwin as Barrow were reduced to 56-3.
Barrow, to their credit, battled back and pushed onto 120 through Ryan Carruthers' top score of 41. However, Carruthers got himself run out as Netherfield made the breakthrough.
Once the danger man had departed, Netherfield were in full control as Hadwin, who took his season tally to 50 wickets, picked removed Dean Williams who fell to a good catch by Huck, while Daniel Ingham caught and bowled Daryl Wearing.
Barrow were reduced even further behind onto 140-8 when Ingham bowled Greg Reynolds, while Tom Penny was run out.
Netherfield cleaned up the tail as Clarkson bowled Glen Kermode, while Ingham finished with a return of 3-30 after picking up the wicket of Gary Collins as Barrow were bowled out for 162 off 48.4 overs.
The Field were reduced to 8-2 in their reply when Wearing trapped Brad Earl LBW, while Josh Dixon was bowled by Reynolds.
However, both Huck and Barrow surged Netherfield to victory with an undefeated stand of 158. Huck's knock included 16 fours and four sixes, while Barrow hit the winning runs and posted his half century at the same time. The Netherfield skipper's innings included six fours and a six as Netherfield closed on 167-2.
