Fourths hold onto draw

The 4th team batted out for an honourable draw in their league game at Windermere on Sunday.
The home side won the toss and batted. Our opening bowlers, Ben Atkinson and George Purcell started with 12 overs of good pace and control. However, the Windermere pair, Rands-Trevor and Hampsey-Cook, showed scant respect for a good length ball, and, with a combination of brilliant shots and total mis-cues, which didn't go to hand, rode their luck and had 100 on the board in 17 overs.
Their opening stand of 133 was broken in the 23rd over, and, thereafter, our bowlers did well to keep the Windermere total to 201 for 7 at tea.
Ryan Martin, Charlie Nicholls, Pete Atkinson and Harris Wood all bowled well, Harris, in particular, with 3 for 21 in 5 overs.
Ben and George came back for the last few overs, with George picking up 2 wickets.

In reply, Mick Notley shared short partnerships with Ben Atkinson, George Purcell and Charlie Nicholls, but Windermere set a defensive ring of fielders, and some spirited bowling made runs hard to come by. By drinks, the winning total was well out of sight. Mick was bowled for 26, whereupon there followed two excellent innings by Ben Stafford and Harry Smith, Ben showing excellent technique for several overs for his 14, and Harry, with the fielders closing in, showed great composure and crashed a couple of boundaries in his 17.
Pete Atkinson and Vaughan Samson batted to the end, and we finished on 86 for 7.
