More than 200 people attended the evening which featured music from Basket Case and Jamie’s Disco.

Organisers of Newark Rugby Club’s summer party held in memory of Jane Overland, the club’s former vice president who died suddenly in January, are delighted to announce the evening raised some £7,240.

More than 200 people attended the evening which featured music from Basket Case and Jamie’s Disco. The money raised came through ticket sales, 11 auction lots and a share of bar profits and donations.

Some of the money will be put to a permanent memorial to Jane at the ground and the rest donated to her favourite charities – Macmillan Cancer Support and Newark Bereavement Centre.

David Pick, one of the co-organisers, said: ‘The event was a great effort by all concerned and a fitting tribute to Jane who so successfully organised so many fund raisers at Kelham Road.

‘We would like to especially thank those that donated auction items, those who loaned us equipment and all the helpers for setting up and taking down and all the many helpers on the night (you know who you are and what you did – thanks). Thanks also to those who supported it by attending.’

Thanks from the organising team – David-Theresa Pick, Andrew-Karen Statham, Amy-Nick Codd, Jean Lawrence & Susan Askew.
