Derby 3rds 17 v Newark 3rds 27.

Always a tough game away at Derby in the Pennant.

Our assembled travelling squad saw quite a few changes.
Rhys Overland was in communicado, but fortunately, at Derby when we arrived.

Welcome back for Nick Exley prop, Dan Cupit second row, Tom Gilchrist back row, Tom O'Leary fulback.

At late notice Dan Arkwell was brought into the fold with Martin Browns proviso "He's fast & fit so Don't break him ". He did just that, had a good game & asking the Ref laws as he went about his business.

Derby No8 started lively scoring early on, to be levelled, by Craig Johnson from a Newark catch & drive lineout. 5-5.

Jonno Marshall was ferreting & linked with Tom Hill to score 5-12.

The score for much of the first half was level at 12-12 until Jonno scampered up the left wing to score a good solo try & go into a halftime lead 12-17.

Soon after Tom O'Leary was caught short & had to make it for the clubhouse toilet quickly !! this introduced "Elia" our waiter from Barcelona. !?!

The Derby left winger No16 was always dangerous with ball in hand & scored himself, Newark caught napping, 17-17.

When Derby were trying clear their lines Tony Gammage gathered, fed Tom Hill put his head down & scythed his way through, score 17-22.

Paddy Robinson sealed the game with a score up the left wing with Jonno hitting the post from the wide out conversion attempt. 17-27.

Derby pressed hard in the last 10 minutes but for the heroic tackling of Rhys on some big lads Newark held out for a good win.

Quick change & into a packed clubhouse for Six Nations, England v Wales.

2 Newark lads wearing bright red "Welsh Brains" shirts should have walked home after nicking it at the end. Good Banter. !

Try scorers, Tom Hill 2, Craig Johnson, Jonno Marshall & Paddy Robinson.
1 Conversion Jonno Marshall.
