History

Their is documented evidence that there was a football club in Newborough since 1929 where the club appeared in the Anglesey League for the first time. In just their second season in the Anglesey League (1930/31) Newborough won the league for the first time plus reached their first cup final (Megan Cup) which they lost.
The following season Newborough joined the Bangor & District League and for the next three seasons they played in this league with finishing a high of second in the 1932/33 season.
Newborough eventually returned to the Anglesey League but after a number of quiet seasons where only the Megan Cup was won in 1951 Newborough were about to hit a period in their history which will never be repeated again.
Between 1954/55 and 1972/73 Newborough won at least one trophy a season be it the Anglesey League, Dargie Cup, Elias Cup, Megan Cup, Junior Cup or the Amateur Cup. In this period Newborough won an incredible 31 trophies (League Champions 8 times, Dargie Cup Winners 9 times, Elias Cup Winners 6 times, Megan Cup winners 5 times, Junior Cup winner 2 times and the Amateur Cup Winners 1 time), and were runners up 22 times in all competitions!!!
Newborough were the first “junior” club to win the NWCFA Amateur Cup (1961) whose previous winners include Bangor City, Caernarfon Town and Rhyl.
Alas as with all great empires they sooner or later come to an end.
The remainder of the 1970’s and 1980’s were less productive with many a season where the club did not even enter the league. The club eventually ceased as a “Saturday” club at the end of the 1989/90 season.
In 1992 a group of men came together and reformed Newborough Football Club as a Sunday League team.
Newborough have been a member of the North Gwynedd and Ynys Mon Sunday League ever since where the club’s highlight was the league and cup double in 2002/03.
