Amazing effort to date and thanks to all. If we reach our target by April/May, we can get the groundworks and seeding done in time for September!

Dear member,

Following the huge success of the ‘Floodlight Repairs’ Appeal, we are pleased to launch our next important initiative.

As I am sure you are aware, owing to the increasing number of M&J players our Mini Rugby section has started to suffer from a lack of suitable playing area at the club on a Sunday morning and therefore we have opened this ‘New Playing Area for Mini Rugby’ Appeal in association with Greenham Common Trust in order to hopefully raise the £10k required.

The planned initiative is to reclaim the 10,000 square metres of the ‘overgrown’ area to the south and west of pitch 2, near to the end of the Clubhouse, to create four new mini-sized pitches specifically to cater for Mini Rugby for U6’s, U7’s, U8’s and U9s. This appeal will cover the burying and removal of stones, the levelling and firming-up of the surface area and the planting of ‘rugby standard’ ryegrass seed.

This will create a safe environment for playing Mini Rugby at Newbury RFC whilst utilising the 10,000 square metres of available ‘unused’ land that we have. Some of you may remember the days when this area was constantly used for rugby training, before it became overgrown. There are some sketches of the proposed pitch layout plan on the ‘Find Me A Grant’ website below.

If you or your company would like to help contribute to this worthy appeal, please go to http://www.findmeagrant.org/wberks/browse.aspx and enter “WB11342” as the Keyword.

Please help us to get this area reclaimed and converted to Mini Rugby pitches. Contributions will be 'matched' by Greenham Common Trust and added to via a Gift Aid contribution - so a £10 donation would be converted to a £22.50 contribution to our target.

All donators will receive an official email receipt from Greenham Common Trust (which is eligible for business accounting purposes) and regular updates on how the contributions are doing. Indeed; if the target figure is not reached within a certain period of time, Greenham Common Trust will refund your generous donation in full.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Alan McDermott, any other committee member or Steve Gibbs (Newbury RFC Trustee and Greenham Common Trust liaison representative).

Many thanks for anything that you can offer.

Yours in rugby,

Alan McDermott

Chair of Mini Rugby
