The Rugby Committee held a meeting on Thursday 25 September 2014 when the following matters were discussed:

As already notified, the Financial AGM will be held at 7.30pm on Wednesday 29 October and details have been published for Members. We look forward to welcoming as many as possible that evening.

Mid-term elections will be held at the same time for the ongoing vacancies of Chair of Minis rugby; and Treasurer, where Emma Allen will be stepping down to focus on the Executive’s role. Nigel Beal recently resigned from the position of Chair of Senior rugby and was co-opted to remain as a Committee member. There is also a current vacancy on the Board of Trustees.

Nominations for any of these positions must be sent to the Secretary by 22 October at the latest, with full details of the Proposer and Seconder; and needs to include a signed statement from the candidate that they are willing to act in the capacity if duly elected.

For the time being, Hywel Price-Richards is covering the role of Safeguarding Officer following Peter Lutterloch’s departure. Whilst this is not an elected role, we would welcome any volunteer willing to take on this essential task.

On the Commercial side, we are looking forward to Steve Jones joining the team next month.

The new season has got off to a great start across all levels, with Blues and Stags winning straight games to date. The Women’s section has good numbers training every week; and there are new recruits joining the Juniors/Minis sections. We’re also looking forward to our U18 Colts playing against Winscombe in the first round of the National Colts Cup, for the first time in a few seasons.

Links with County are being strengthened and Steve Dyer reported back from a recent Berkshire RFU meeting. Planning ahead of next year’s Rugby World Cup is underway.

A new initiative is being piloted this season with BRFU Referee Society holding ‘Meet the Ref’ sessions after designated SW1 East league games. The first was held following our away game at Reading; and Newbury will be hosting a similar session after the 1st XV home match against Bletchley on 25 October.

A brief Committee meeting has been provisionally scheduled prior to the AFGM and the date for the following one will be notified thereafter.
