Well, with the old season now behind us and the clock ticking towards the start of the new one with all its challenges for all teams, this years Annual club Fun Day is to be held on Saturday 16th August 12 noon – 6 pm at Newent Rec.
As always, our objectives are to raise funds for the running of our club for all teams to benefit from and to provide an afternoon for everyone to enjoy and come together while we’re between seasons so it’s vital that we get as much support from all club members, our VPs, our supporters and of course from our community.
To achieve the above objectives we need to get people to the fun day but more importantly we need to keep them there and keep them entertained.
How do we plan to do this ? Well, we’ve got the expected match that we all want to see as a quick fix before the new season – this year it will be a 1st / 2nd XV mixed team and we’ll also have an U14 session too.
Here are the new things we’ve added in:
Tug of War competition for all local clubs pubs etc to enter a team (or teams!) for a chance to take the title of Champions of the Rope 2014 AND a £100 cash prize to pocket – maybe some of YOU will get yourselves in to a team to give others a run for their money ? Entry is just £5 per team of 8. This event will be run by our Vice Chairman Geoff Phelps (we’ve got other plans for Dennis!).
Soak the bloke – soak the coach – and anyone else we can con in to joining in! We’ve managed to secure a set of stocks and we are busy getting the list of willing “volunteers” lined up – we want to see more “volunteers” so come on all you VPs – get yourselves a slot to get a little wet and we’ll be smiling when we see the money coming in - we’ve signed up Andy Addis and Notty and Dennis is also on our hit list so we’re expecting some of you to come forward to help us fill the list.
School sports day style activities for the kids – and a few events just for us adults!
Hillbrooks Ice cream van – highly recommended are the Pimms sorbet and the Jolly Jester beer ice cream !
