All three Newham Dockers junior teams played at home on Saturday for the first time in 2013.

After a number of weeks with no games due to weather conditions and favourable cup draws the teams all found themselves a little short of match awareness.

Full match reports for each team can be found on the dedicated team pages on the website.

Starting the day, the U/14s hosted the top of the table Medway Dragons. This was always going to be a tough fixture for the youngest league team at the club who are mostly new players and still finding their feet.

There were impressive performances from Ben Lazar filling in at dummy half, Alfie Sillitoe leading with destructive runs in the forwards and Rikki Cooper before getting injured showed maturity beyond his short experience.

The U/16s have been short of players recently however with more experienced players on holidays, the club fielded no less than six new players for a full team.

Momentum flowed between the two sides and in the second half the Dockers found themselves still in with a chance following a strong defensive set on their own tryline which concluded with a cross field kick which Centre Seb Selano pounced on and made a decisive break before passing to Brad Rackham in support.

Strong field position over the resulting set of six gave Rackham the opportunity for an audacious chip and chase, collecting the ball with one hand to touch down and bring them within 3 scores.

However experience told and that was as close as it got for the 16s who will no doubt be competing for wins after a few more training sessions together.

As all the players fed on their post match burgers, the 19s took the field against a well organised Barking and Dagenham Bulldogs outfit. Again the highly fancied Bulldogs were going to stiff opposition for the Dockers but the first try went the way of the home team after some swift passing to the right wing stretching the Bulldogs defence. From the resulting play the ball, former London Bronco academy star Sean Osbourne scored in his first match since returning from knee surgery in 2012, fooling the defence with a dummy and diving over in the corner.

The Bulldogs found their composure and with Dockers big forward threat David Nduka-Dladiti on the sideline injured midway through the first half, the hard work was left to a now shortened team. Maahir Subhani and Abdul Zenaf stood up to be counted and worked hard for the remainder of the match while Osbourne and Tom Selano fought well also.

Final scores respectively were 64-0, 52-20 and 58-10. The two latter scores not reflecting the games on show.

This coming weekend the U/16s again have a week off to prepare for their cup fixture away to Richmond while the 14s and 19s will travel on Saturday to South London to play the Storm in a double header away fixture.
