Tours - 2017

Social Secretary’s Report 2017
The last 12 months as Social Secretary have been very trying to say the least. The social year started with our 175th Anniversary Dinner with 79 attendees. The night was an outstanding success and justified all the hard work put in.
Unfortunately the same could not be said of our Charity Calendar of which we sold only 149 of the 200 print run. The majority of the unsold were passed onto Demelza Shops but as some were not returned until mid January I would have thought they would have been difficult to sell. We did still make a profit but half of what was anticipated. My thanks to Andrew Morgan who sold over 60 by himself.
The two main fundraising/social ideas for 2017 did not fare any better. One was dropped at committee and the resurrection of the 100 Club was stopped when it became apparent that it would be difficult to sell sufficient to justify the effort put in.
Our tour of Wiltshire was well supported and four close games and wonderful weather helped the occasion.
Cricket week on the field was blighted by poor weather but off it we had the great success of the Meat Raffle as well as Clive Carter’s BBQ and the auction. On the disappointing side was the poor support of the Family Day. We have already decided on changes to next year’s Cricket week which I am sure you will all approve of. My thanks on top of the ‘normal crew’ goes to the ‘Carter’s’ who went over and above the call of duty during the week.
Demelza Day again proved a success and I thank everyone who gave up their whole Sunday to attend.
Asif again organised and run our Fantasy Cricket League with great success.
Andy Morgan and Gary Piper took over the running of our Golf Society and even though numbers dropped slightly it can still be considered a success especially with the added prize they organised for the winner.
We are still in the process of getting our Ladies Social Section up and running so look out for more information on that.
Our Facebook page currently has 219 ‘Likes’ which is its highest ever and also at its highest ever level is our Twitter account @newingtoncc which has 71 ‘followers’.
I am sure you are all by now aware that next year will be incredibly important to OUR club regards funds as our outgoings will increase considerably so we will look to find new ways and improve current ways in an effort to overcome this. The change to next year’s Cricket Week is one.
I ask you all to be patient with what the club comes up with and wherever possible for you and your families to try and support the club whenever you can.
