Relatively Quiet Day At Church Lane

The final player registrations of The 2014/15 Evo Stik NPL season were administered on Thursday and it was a relatively quiet day at Church Lane.

Goalkeeper Aaron Ashley was released to enable him to sign for Radcliffe Borough and Nick Swirad was given international clearance to further his career in Australia. Daniel Grimshaw also departed the first team squad recently and joined play-off contenders Mossley.

There have been some new arrivals however including the return of two former players earlier in the month. Goalkeeper Liam Higginbotham has featured in the last five Division One North fixtures and has shown that he has lost none of his reflexes which made him such a fans favourite when he played in Tony Hancock’s North West Counties teams at the turn of the last decade.

Also coming back to The High Peak is former skipper Chris Young who brings a wealth of experience to the midfield areas following spells at Manchester City, Mansfield Town, Altrincham, Hyde, Stockport / Woodley Sports and Curzon Ashton earlier in his career.

The final addition to the pool of players was striker Saul Henderson. Standing well over six feet tall, Saul played at Mossley, Curzon Ashton and Maine Road before making the move in the latter part of the 2013/14 NPL season to Stafford Rangers where he scored a number of goals for the Marston Road outfit as they unsuccessfully battled relegation from The Premier Division. Saul started this campaign at Northwich Flixton Villa before subsequently joining Ashton United and Northwich Victoria.
