Millers slip to unfortunate defeat

After two successive victories Roy Soule's men traveled to Valley Road to take on a Northwich Victoria side boasting a lengthy unbeaten run.

Soule was able to name an unchanged side from that which won at Salford City seven days ago, a luxury he has not been afforded previously during the campaign.

Both sides started well and had chances to take the lead, however The Millers seemed to be in control as the first-half neared it's close. It was in the dying moments of the opening period that the turning point, and main talking point of the game occurred. Millers central defender Jacob Wood (pictured) was struck above the eye with a flailing elbow and was forced to leave the field for treatment on a huge gash. The referee did not seem to have a clear view of the incident and the offender went unpunished. While The Millers were down to ten men in the immediate aftermath, the home side took the lead. A cross from wide eluded the visitors defence and was nodded past Peter Collinge by former Miller Ashley Stott.

The second-half saw The Millers press forward in search of an equaliser, but it was the home side who added to their lead, Josh Amis making it 2-0 on the hour.

Westley Bancroft curled in a long range effort for The Millers just moments later to reduce the arrears and to continue his impressive scoring run, but in spite of The Millers best efforts they were unable to salvage a point from the game.

Millers assistant boss Paul Armstrong was disappointed by the result;

"We felt we deserved all three points, not just a draw" said Armstrong "The major decisions in the game did not go our way and that is frustrating. We can't criticise the players for a performance like that, they didn't do a great deal wrong to be fair"

The Millers now face three home games in a week as Lancaster City (14 April), Cammell Laird (16 April) and Kendal Town (19 April) visit Church Lane.
