Newport Pagnell Town Reserves manager David Ashcroft on their 4-0 win against Irchester United Reserves:
"Today we played an Irchester side who after recent results will probably hoped to nick some points from us today. We knew Irchy had kept 3 clean sheets in row and therefore would be tough to break down.
We started the game very brightly and moved the ball around fantastically which then created space down the right wing. Ball was then delivered on point from Taigan Brooks to the leaping salmon Sammy O’Neil to score at the back post.
Second goal then came shortly after from a corner which was delivered deep by Jamie Burrows and knocked back into the danger area from
Ben Snusher. Matt Cullis benefitted from the unselfishness of Ben to header us into a 2-0 lead.
I feel as though we started to stray away from the basics we did so well in the opening 20 and the chances and spaces became less and less. We then had a pen shout that was awarded after Dan Smith turned well away from the defender who was then brought down. New Dad
Scott Mulkern calmly slotted the pen to make it 3-0.
Half time came and we highlighted how much we wanted to keep a clean sheet and remind the lads to continue with the same mentality we opened with in the 1st 20.
Not much between the teams in the opening of the second half but the newport goal was never really threatened. As the game became quite stagnant we made 3 changes with Nimmy, Jake and Connor coming on. All 3 really scared the back line of Irchy and it was only a matter of time when Nimmy threaded an inch perfect ball to Jake who went onto score.
Game ended 4-0 but some great individual performances but it was a real team effort today where everybody played their part."
