Mid Beds Tigers U12 vs U12 Newport Pagnell U12 Swans
Our 5th game on the road away from Willen Road
So over to Sandye Place for the first time this season, a glorious setting for Remembrance Day and a very good team photo beforehand.
The pitch was soft so the anticipation of tired legs was there from the start; a slightly adjusted warm up routine took place. Today was also the first time this season we had every player available.
We kicked off and the teams we put the Tigers on the back foot straight away, pressure from the start saw the ball and the teams remain camped in the tigers half. On 2 minutes a couple of throw ins and wonderful piece of interplay bought a just reward. Mia’s throw to Zara, played back and put into space for Ava to run on to. A pass across the face of the goal and shot from Lily saw us one up. Beautifully worked and a cool finish!
Just on 5 minutes saw an attack from the Tigers, the ball played through to their striker who was caught offside. The resulting free kick saw Emily play the ball forward and it broke kindly for Zara to pounce on it and drive forward, two touches toward the goal and with the very capable no.5 all over her slotted the ball past the keepers’ left to nestle in the bottom corner. A fine finish!
The game continued in the same vein for a while with another opportunity on the break Zara again found herself behind the defenders with the goalkeeper to beat, this time with the No.5 winning out with enough to put Zara off her shot and a save by the keeper resulting in a corner, the pressure kept up.
Towards the end of the half Scarlett had a shot saved from another break and few minutes later a quick turn and a skill on the ball saw her with only the keeper to beat but another good save and the attack was stopped.
Half time beckoned and the Tigers got more into the game, the match started to get a little stretched but few attempts from either side, Ava was notable in midfield, regularly stifling the play by the Tigers, our own forwards and wingers being stopped by a now resolute defence. Half time.
Instructions given and a couple of changes saw a renewed impetus from the Swans, on 36 minutes Scarlett break again and yet again thwarted by the Tigers keeper with a really good save that drew good comments from the Swans management team.
The game was fairly even for most of the second half with the odd skirmish forward but most of the play in midfield.
45 minutes in and off came Lily and Zara, replaced with Sophia and Ruby. Sophia notable in a run and attack almost straight away but again snuffed out. Ruby added further strength to midfield.
Alas, on 52 minutes and in a comfortable 2-0 lead we again let a run through the heart of midfield and through our defence allowed the tigers striker an attempt at goal, an attempt took with glee to make the score 2-1, the most potent attack of the game resulting in a goal.
Regrouping we packed midfield and the last 7 or so minutes resulted in midfield playe with very little attack from either side.
The swans fought out to win 2-1 in a very good footballing game.
Ava was awarded a well-deserved Player of the Match.
