Newport Pagnell Town U12 Swans vs AFC Dunstable U12

Our return league fixture and 3rd game against each other

A third game this season for us vs AFC Dunstable, having recently inflicted defeats this season by 6 – 2 and 4-1 the Swans were again keen to demonstrate what they had continued to learned in the last few weeks. We welcomed Tia to our ranks this week.
We set the team up and gave specific players clear instructions for the game. We started brightly and within a couple of minutes a break down the left saw Zara burst into the Dunstable box and shoot just wide of the goal. We kept up a little pressure and within 5 minutes had won a corner that was smashed in to the box, a small battle ensued but unfortunately the ball was cleared and the chance was gone. The clearance resulted in a break and almost immediately Dunstable were in the Swans box and a rasping shot was brilliantly saved by Emily. We started to feel the pressure build as expected and we coped reasonably well with it.
12 minutes in and with the ball in the Dunstable half it was cleared and picked up in midfield and with a powerful drive through the middle of the swans midfield and defence the goal beckoned and we found ourselves 0-1 down.
Relentless pressure again for the next few minutes but no chances of note for either team, then a tremendous tackle in midfield by Lily set the tone for what the rest of the swans needed to do. A few minutes from half time saw a powerful break down the left again with Zara driving at the defenders, this time the ball was lost, but with great tenacity and a battling spirit saw Evie win the ball back, alas no end product but great battling. Half time.
Tia came on for Zara and within a minute she was off down the wing and another shot at Dunstable, again this time wide. The ball quickly taken from the resulting goal kick found its way to the Dunstable strikers and yet another shot was brilliantly saved, Emily saved the team there with little challenge put in through the middle again.
The goal kick was taken with a powerful punt up field; we kept the ball for a while before Lily was fouled in the Dunstable half. Emily came forward to take the kick and put the ball into the danger area, again no goal, but good effort being put in all over the pitch for the swans. Then again 12 minutes or so into the half saw another break through the middle and again with little challenge a powerful shot sailed past Emily and we were 0-2 down.
The pressure remained until the end of the game but no further opportunities for either team saw the game end 0-2.
Both Lily and Ruby were awarded Player of the Match given that they executed the game plan almost as we anticipated.
The Dunstable management team commented after the game that once again we had given the Dunstable girls a great game and a run for their money and that 0-2 is not a big defeat and they had played really well.
