Newsome Panthers Juniors 1995-
In 1995, as the Newsome Magpies Open Age team disbanded, Paul and Gail Brick with the help of a number of willing parents launched a junior section but due league rules the name 'magpies' could not be used.
The first official committee meeting was held on Monday 23rd October 1995 and the name Panthers was adopted, and the club was born.

Still based at the Fountain Inn and with home games played at Newsome High school, that season saw under 9 and under 11 teams form enter the West Riding league.
Since then the club has grown and grown, turning out nine teams and over 220 junior members this season.
We hope to add a new age group every season turning us into the strongest club in the West Riding league.
The aim of the club in the beginning was to develop children in the skills of rugby, allowing them to progress and play at open age level hopefully at Newsome.

In the season 2001-2002,five ex juniors players took their places in the open age squad, helping them to promotion to division four. At the same time four other players from the team signed with Huddersfield Giants.

Since then other players including Leroy Cudjoe, James Martin, Chris Clarke, Simon George, Danny Garside, Craig Denby, Colin Denby, Ryan Heeley, Jason Crookes, Michael Lawrence,Tom Guinan, Ben Cuttell, Josh Cuttell, Tom Good, Austin Barrowclough, Matthew Bravo, Joe Parkinson, Alex Chatterton, Ben Dawson, Joe Hayward,Chris Kendall have signed Academy contracts with the local profesional clubs.

Other younger players at the club are currently attached to various professional clubs at scholarship level.

In 2003, the club through the hard work of the management committee, were awarded the Sport England "Clubmark" award.
This year also saw the club take a 30 year lease on the playing fields at Hall Bower Lane. Games were played in September 2004 on the fields.
This year also saw the establishment of a girls team and a under 8's age group for the first time.
In the 2005/06 season, the club saw it's first post 16 age group season, of which several have signed contracts with professional clubs.
The 2006/2007 season saw squads for the first time from the under 8's through U16. One of the highlights was the winning of the Yorkshire cup by the U14 squad under the guidence of Andy Brewster.
The 2007/08 season was marked by the club coaching over 200 players and developing the Hall Bower playing fields. The club was recognised by further revalidation of the clubmark award.

In the 2008/09 season we look forward to providing coaching for all players to achieve their individual goals in the game next season,
