Newton Abbot U13s got back to winning ways with a 43-5 victory over Crediton at Rackerhayes.
Another slow start by Newton allowed the visitors to take the lead after just two minutes with a well-taken left-wing try.
However the home side soon found their feet and struck back almost immediately when patient play from the forwards set up fly-half Cameron Fogden
to barge his way over near the posts.
The Newton forwards were back to their best - lock morgan white
and flanker Will Sanders-Wright
were in particularly good form - and plenty of quick ball gave the backs numerous opportunities to attack.
Excellent passing among the back-line created the openings for outside-centre Ralph Wood
to touch down on the right and left-winger James Bright
to score the first of his two tries. A conversion from Fogden gave Newton a 17-5 lead.
Fogden and Bright both added their second tries before half-time. The latter was converted by Will Lammonby
to put the All Whites 24 points ahead at the break.
After the interval Crediton shored up their defence, making it harder for Newton to break them down. But seven minutes into the half the home side extended their lead when a well-worked set piece from a tap-penalty enabled skipper Matt Pocock
to score under the posts. Fogden added the extras.
Centre Aaron Smith
then broke through to score the Whites 7th try and the conversion from Fogden rounded off the scoring.
In the remaining ten minutes the visitors did their best to chalk up a consolation score but the home defence held firm to complete a convincing performance.
