There has been a good response to our efforts to contact former players. We have heard from Graham Ager, and who remembers Bob Lewis?? well he turned up a couple of weeks ago and do you know what - he's just the same!!! Tony "Webb" Ellis ( Old lead boots) has also made a recent appearance and reckons he could be donning his boots for a Yeoman's game!!! Brian( Fred) Lawrence has joined the 100 club and sent his cheque in guineas - does anybody remember those? He also womdered if anybody had heard from Greg Hocking?
Now - if you are a former player and I haven't contacted you, please let me have your details by replying to this thread or to my home email which is kingston869@virginmedia.com
By the way has anybody seen John Wootton lately and what ever happened to D
ave Torrenson?

Just like to thank everyone for turning up on Saturday night for the race night. We had a brilliant night and raised some much needed funds for the M&J Section. This helps towards paying for our coaches CPD's and the children's presentation dinner.

The older I get, the better a player I use to be!

I always think of this as we have a post match drink at the Own, and we recall the epic struggles of the past!

I remember how pleased I was when I became a regular 1st teamer in the seventies, only to find out later that all Mens Own players then were selected for the first team if they had a company car with free petrol!

These of course were the days before leagues, when all matches were friendlies, some more so than others.

You could always tell how strong the opposition was by the number of unavailabilities, Norman Dodds with a cold etc.

The epitome of the game to me was the routine where after the match you sought out your opposite number and bought him a pint.

The game was summed up by the then Captain Graham Agar who said, "always remember that Saturdays are for rugby!"

Finally, did you know that Billy Kingston is now nicknamed PIP, he's a crap replacement!

Yes Pomp, nostalgia is not what it was - anyway what does PIP stand for?

Thanks for explaining that Pomp - We don't seem to be having much luck with getting comments from former players do we? - I have had a word with a few - John Goyne for example but as a former operational reseach director at Barclaycard I think he is finding the logging on procedure a bit taxing. Is that right John!!!

Bill, the problem John has is that when he can reach the keyboard his eyes are too far away to be able to read it!
