Three Generations of Rugby players having had their playing careers interrupted….

Dick Hollick played for Nuneaton, Coventry, The Royal Navy & Combined Services and whilst stationed down at RNAS Culdrose for Redruth and Cornwall.

Nigel started at King Henry VIII school, Coventry & Coventry Schools, then onto Nuneaton and even whilst at Bournemouth Colleges traveled back up to play at weekends. In his last year, Captained the College side and was selected for England Colleges.
Post College he moved down to work in Penzance and enjoyed a time with the Pirates !

The Hospitality Industry and sport not being the easiest mix -working late & weekends – meant work often had to come first.
Moving back to the Midlands and after a season with Ampthill Nigel landed in Stoke Bruerne running a small ‘eatery’ on the canal side.

It was from here that the love affair with Mens Own RFC began, introduced by David Fitzhugh to the enigmatic and talented leader at the time, Andy Morris in his last season as Captain before handing the reigns over to a young, charismatic force ….Mark James. The 90’s and into 2000 were inspired times at The Own galvanized by success, enthusiasm, respect, tours, great coaches and a squad of players that played and socialised together regularly.
( and still do ! )

Tom, (Hollick junior) who came through the Mens Own mini set up and was playing at Sponne school is just starting to see these sporting team bonds develop.

This sense of bonding has transpired through these latest generations, to now, where the children of those players are now on the edge of stepping up and continuing the success and the camaraderie that sport in general offers, but particularly Rugby and specifically Mens Own !

This Testamonial on the Saturday 6th September, or fun day, or day of Rugby is as much a celebration of the Family of Rugby, to kick start a new season at Mens Own and rugby throughout Northants as well as a demonstration of the affinity and the solidarity that this game generates.
