Oundle turned up with quite a young side that holds promise for their future. The game was close from start to finish and with both sides taking control for periods of play the game could have gone either way and no one would have argued if Oundle had came away with the spoils.
The Own started well winning good ball and showing some strong running.
The first try came after just 4min when captain Ian Evans
drove over, Matt Brace
added the conversion to give Own a 7-0 lead.
Oundle replied a minute later with a penalty for 7-3.
Mens Own had the better of the opening 20min but could not get over the line to add to their points.
Oundle fought their way into the game with some good handling and passing and were rewarded with a converted try on 20min to make it 7-10.
Oundle had the better of the 20min leading up to half time but it was M.O. who scored on 37min following a break in their own half and a long kick ahead determinedly chased by Marc Simmons
and Gareth Hughes
, Marc won the chase for the try and Matt Brace
added the conversion to give a half time score of 14-10 to the Own.
The second half saw the control of the game change hands several times and it was 69min played before the next score. John Wootton
who had a very good game at scrum half continually pressurising his opposite number and breaking several times to get his team out of trouble took a quick ball and drove over the line for a try to make it 19-10.
Own put a lot of pressure on Oundle particularly in the scrum but it was Oundle who had the last say with a try following 5min of strong play to give a final score of 19-15 earning them a losing bonus point.
Mens Own had the better of the scrums and the driving play, lineouts were fairly even and Oundle had the better of the backs play, all in all a well competed game with the Own just deserving the win (but only just).
