With several players unavailable this week, Mens Own pooled the available 1s and 2s players to get a team out at Casuals.
In what was perfect conditions for running rugby, Own were straight on the offensive, but some scrappy play at the breakdown let Own down a little, until Jack Sawbridge
broke through to score under the posts to get Own off the mark. Mark Newton
coverted. 5 minutes later, Jack was quick to intercept the ball to go over for the second try, again converted by Newton. Some swift hands in the backs produced the next try with Sam Bucknall
using his pace on the wing to sprint clear to touch down in the corner. Danny Golden
playing at outside center was next to make a break, but a big takle stopped Danny in his tracks. Shortly after, he broke through again, this time to score in the corner.
was next on the score sheet after breaking several tackles to score and then convert himself. Steve Ennew
added the final try of the half again converted by Newton.
With the rolling subs made to good use, Own continued their dominace in the second half, and were rarely troubled by Casuals. But it took until the 60th minute to add to the score when Barry Watts
went over for the 7th try of the game. Newton added the conversion.
After what looked like a possible broken ankle from one of the Casuals players, the ref decided to blow up early, so the final score was 45-0.
No 2s fixture next week, so we can all get along to support the 1s in the title decider at Old Newts, and hopefully join in the celebrations after.
