Own 2s edge Bugbrooke
Own 2s cut it fine, but did just enough to take the pionts against Bugbrooke 2s.
With Bugbrooke players arriving late, Own lent them Mark Newton to give them a starting 15. But with Own starting slowly it was Newton who added the first try for the home side. Shortly after they added another, before Own finally got going. From a scrum inside Owns half it was Steve Ennew who picked up to make the break. With Gareth Hughes in support Ennew offloaded for Hughes to sprint the remaining 40 meters to score under the posts. Bugbrooke then added another try to take the score to 21-5 into the break.
Own made some changes and it wasn't long before a 40 meter brake from Chris Gould, which saw him break several takles on the way throgh to score Owns second try. The conversion was added by Mark Newton who was now back in an Own shirt. Bugbrooke again came close to scoring but for a try saving takle from James Reynolds held the ball up as bugbrooke crossed the line. Own were starting to dominate at the brakedown and after a rolling maul it was Ian Evans who broke off the back to burrow across the line for the 3rd try. Newton again added the extras.
At 21-19 and with a penalty oppotunity on the 22, Own opted to go for the posts and Newton put Own into the lead for the first time in the match.
With 10 minutes left it was a nail biting finish with Bugbrooke having 2 long penalty attempts drop short, but when Newton put the ball into touch, the final whistle went for Own to take the win 21-22.
Man of the match went to Tom Frost for a great display playing at openside flanker.
