Long Buckby (A) 8th January 2012
Men’s Own lost 5-31 to Long Buckby
Tries: Kieran Rhodes
Despite the Christmas lay-off Mens Own produced some excellent rugby and were within a try of a strong Long Buckby side until the closing stages. Once again the forwards led the way, dominating the scrum and line-out. But repeated lost possession in the final five yards enabled the home team to escape still 7-0 ahead at the break. In the second half however more lost ball, plus some tired defending, let Long Buckby through again - producing a final score-line that flattered the home side.
Men’s Own lost 0-24 to Long Buckby
Poor defending right from the off suggested Mens Own had not learned their lesson from the first match, but as the game progressed improved handling and more determined tackling saw Mens Own take the game to the opposition. And with a bit more luck at crucial moments Own could have seriously embarrassed the opposition – their try-line was breached twice but the blues just couldn’t get the ball down. A good performance suggesting there are even better times to come in 2012.
