Webb Ellis Cup to visit North Berwick Rugby Club as part of Rugby World Cup 2015 Trophy Tour

Coveted by the world’s best players and seen by millions of fans, the Webb Ellis Cup is one of the game’s most instantly recognisable icons. Made from gilded silver in 1906, the Webb Ellis Cup has travelled the world since its reinvention as the most sought-after possession in Rugby. It has been seen by millions and has been lifted by some of the finest Rugby players ever to grace the international stage
The morning of Friday 12 June the rugby communities of East Lothian will celebrate the arrival of the Web Ellis Cup at North Berwick Rugby Club where a festival of youth rugby is planned.
Steve Thomson from North Berwick RFC said “We are privileged and honoured to host this event in North Berwick and are very excited that the Webb Ellis Cup will make an appearance. Through the hard work and support of clubs and schools in East Lothian participation in youth rugby is increasing and this has reflected in the number of young players in the national development program. This event will show that it is possible for clubs and schools to share the atmosphere of the Rugby World Cup and maybe inspire some to reach for this level”.
The rugby communities from Dunbar, Haddington, Tranent, Musselburgh and Prestonpans will be hosted in North Berwick where a festival of 7s youth rugby for U16, U14 and P7s will be held. The first games kick off at 9.30am with the prize giving scheduled for 12:00 noon. Guests include former Scotland International and SRU Rugby Ambassador Chris Patterson and other guests that will include Lochie, the Scotland team mascot!
“We hope that the visit to North Berwick will engage fans and give them the opportunity to build unforgettable memories as part of their own Rugby World Cup 2015 story. Players supporters and all those with an interest in rugby are welcome to attend, cheer on their local rugby community, and take advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity to have their photograph taken with the famous Web Ellis Trophy”
