North Berwick were host to Duns on Saturday, who are currently second in the table. Although a sunny day a very strong wind made life difficult for everyone. The referee ruled with a light touch as far as forward passes & line-outs went, but the game was still littered with errors.
North Berwick were awarded a early penalty but the kick was pulled well wide. Duns went on to score their first try in 10 minutes of the match, followed by another on 22 minutes. North Berwick would probably have settled for 0-12 at half time but the last kick of the period failed to find touch & Duns ran it back in unopposed for 0-19. The fact that this was 47 minutes after the kick-off just added to the frustration of the home support.
North Berwick started well in the second half & it looked like we might have a game on our hands, but nothing went right and Duns came back with another couple of tries to seal the victory & their bonus point. Very late on they scored in the corner to make it 0-36
All in all a very disappointing performance but credit must be recorded to man of the match Adam Macnair who at times single-handedly tried to stem the tide & he for one didn’t miss a tackle. Thanks also to Lee Inglis
who after months of inactivity answered the call when we had no props to pick & against all expectations lasted the complete 80 minutes.
Next week we are away to Lismore & will need a far better performance in all areas to take anything out of the game. We then have a long break before resuming league games in mid-January but there will be rugby at Recreation Park over the holiday so please check the web site for details.
