Derby Day Win for U12s
Tough Match-up Against Thornbury
North Bristol U12s welcomed Thornbury to Oaklands knowing it would be a tough match. Played on one of the main pitches there was plenty of width on the pitch for the ball to be passed wide. North Bristol had 24 of the squad available and played one game against their visitors, twenty minutes each half.
The U12s started the game at blistering pace, fully committed. The work rate across the whole team has really gone up a notch over the past month and this really proved difficult for Thornbury who were unable to match it in the first half. Thornbury, with their players in specific positions, were on the back foot and it wasn't long before the first North Bristol try. Louie, who enjoyed a strong game, crashed over from close range to open the scoring.
Soon after, Skipper for the day Ellis was on hand to finish a flowing move where the ball was passed into space at pace and he was untouched as he crossed the line. Great to watch and also proving that the handling drills in training were paying off. It was soon three tries to nil when Jack scored in the corner earning him a well-deserved try. A typically strong burst from Max brought him a score and Matthew also crossed giving his team a 5-1 lead at the break.
Thornbury were much more competitive in the second half which ended one try each. A try from Ben B, after a great pass from Will, increased North Bristol's lead before a high-tackle halted a Thornbury attack and a penalty try was awarded for the visitors.
The morning saw a well competed match where North Bristol's overall team work, regardless of what positions the boys were in during the game, shone through. All of the squad contributed especially Will who is continuing to excel in his distribution and Morgan and Leon who worked themselves to a stand-still. Ben T again showed great improvement, carrying the ball well, despite only just starting playing two months ago.
Big thanks to Thornbury for the match and the squad look forward to the return fixture in the New Year.
