North East Worcestershire Ravens at Northampton Knights Festival
Ravens combined with the Birmingham Bulldogs for this festival; thanks to the Bulldogs Players and Coaches for a great day.
Ravens made a steady start in their first round match against Coventry Bears coming away with a hard fought 8-8 draw with Ethan Priest bagging a brace of tries. The second round match against Leicester Storm was a more one-sided affair. Ravens stole a try from the kick off through Max Craven and never looked like losing the lead as Craven added a second and Dominic Heeks added the third to end the game 12-4. Northampton Knights were the next team to be dispatched, as the Ravens executed their game plan to perfection and drained the Knights’ forwards with a barrage of tight runs from Josh Davies and Budd Crooks. The final score of 12-0 against the hosts was more than justified by the pressure and tenacity shown by the Ravens squad.
The final game against a tough Gloucester side proved to be the match of the day with both sides coming into the game undefeated. Ravens took first blood as Ethan Priest charged over the line but Gloucester pulled back with a break through a fractured Ravens defence. The second Ravens try came from a cheeky dive over by Nathan Hall after another impressive set brought the Ravens within a yard of the Gloucester line. Gloucester pulled a try back to even the game up and with both sides playing some of the most entertaining rugby of the day it was Gloucester who just about edged it to win 12-8.
A fantastic day for players and spectators; with the Ravens due to host their own Festival at Bromsgrove’s Finstall Park on June 10th the Festival Series is providing some gripping matches for the up and coming teams.
