Ravens travel to Sherwood for a win!

Ravens travelled away on saturday 22nd July to Sherwood Wolf hunt, after a call on thursday between the two teams it was agreed that Ravens fixture would become part on a 9s tournament as Sherwood were hosting a fun day to raise money for Air Ambulance. Ravens were more than happy with this decision as it meant the lads got more time on the pitch and got to play a variety of teams and playing to their advantage as the core of the Ravens team have played solid together through the season.
Games were to be 10 minutes each way with the first fixture being against the Limes. It was a great battle with everyone getting used to the space on the pitch. Limes started the scoring but Ravens hit back with a great kick from David Swaysland which Lee Knight jumped high to collect and scored in the corner. With Brad Sinclair making a late come back to the squad worked well with Lee Knight and after a great to and fro from each other, Brad Sinclair was the last to get his hands on the ball and slide in again over the line with David Wimbury converting. The limes hit back a few times but Lee Knight wanted to make up for missing a few games and got another try in wide. With the final score for the fixture as 14-44 to the Limes.
The second fixture was Ravens v Sherwood. This was set to be a tight battle with Sherwood scoring two quick trys but Ravens David Wimbury throwing a dummy close to the sticks scoring and converting. The game played from one end of the park to the next and was evenly matched with Sherwood scoring again but quickly followed by another try from Brad Sinclair, sherwood bounced back again and scored but time was to repeat with another come back from Brad Sinclair. Battle continued with Brad making some strong defensive tackles stopping several tries, but Sherwood used their subs wisely and got another two tries in. Ravens Paul Crocker in the last minute made a great break and stepped several players down the side to score centre of the sticks allowing an easy conversion for Wimbury. Final score 18-26 to Sherwood. Ravens were feeling more confident with each game.
The final fixture was Ravens v the Anniversaries. Ravens were set for the last game and scored first with a classic try from Captain David Swaysland, this was quickly followed by a try from John White, converted by Wimbury. The anniversaries scored after slipping down the side. After a strong battle and some hard driving down the middle of the park, prop Dylan Fennell got the try of the tournament for Ravens being his first try for the team with some great celebration from the whole team and the side line. Sherwood fought through the line to get a converted try but Ravens hit back again with a lovely play down the park in the last minute finished by Paul Crocker and a conversion by Wimbury. Ravens finished on a high with the final score being 20-10 to Ravens. Brad Sinclair won man of the tournament.
It was a great end to the day for a great cause. All the lads were on cloud nine and ready to celebrate. It was great having the core together and seeing them all eager to score and support each other. They are looking forward to playing in another nines tournament on august 12th with details to be confirmed. Training is still on Wednesdays 7.30pm and Juniors on Sundays at 10.30am @ Hopwood Park.
