N.E.W Ravens Rugby League headed to Telford Raiders on Saturday with many players from the recent large squad missing due to work commitments. They headed with high hopes but a very new developing team. For many this was also going to be a new experience of playing on the 3G astro turf.
Ravens started with a 15 strong squad which quickly went down to the minimum 13 due to injuries.
Telford started as they planned to continue with the first try of the game going in quick and fast but Ravens were fast to respond with a try from Mark Austin which was converted by Dave Wimbury. It looked like this was going to be a neck to neck battle. However Ravens lost their quick paced winger to injury allowing Telford to utilise on the out of position Raven player trying to fill the gap and used the quick pace of their younger players to get in some fast try’s out on the wing giving them a strong lead at half time.
Ravens looked to re group at half time and answered back with the first try of the second half going in straight under the sticks by Rich Whitehouse easily converted by Dave Wimbury. However this was set to be a short lived battle back as Ravens quickly lost another player pushing other players out of their comfort zones. Telford saw the discomfort and played on the Ravens weakness of the day and ran in even more trys past the fast tiring Ravens side. On the day Telford had the larger more experienced squad and it showed. Ravens battled on and will continue to develop their new players and further increase the size of the squad. Ravens always have a never give up moto and this again showed this week.
N.E.W Ravens play Northampton Demons at home this Saturday, so lets see that Ravens side grow even further.
