This week's good cause: From Dave Arthur - " Three Peaks Charity Challenge – June 2012
In a moment of “enthusiasm” I volunteered to take part in the above challenge, along with a large group of colleagues from Tait Walker and other contacts.
The challenge is to climb the three highest peaks in each country of mainland Britain – Ben Nevis in Scotland , Scafell Pike in England , and Snowdon in Wales – all within 24 hours!
There are 20 of us taking part in total, with Macmillan Cancer Care being the charity we have chosen to support. We will be leaving Newcastle on the morning of Saturday 23rdJune, arriving at Ben Nevis late afternoon, to start the climbing at around 5pm. This will allow us to get up and down the mountain before dark and we will then drive through the night to Scafell Pike in the Lake District , in time to start out for the summit just after dawn. Then it will be on to Wales , to hopefully complete both the ascent and descent of Snowdon before 5pm on Sunday 24th June.
I would be most grateful if you were able to sponsor me – and I promise that no monies will be extracted to pay for a new set of knees for me after the challenge!
I have set up a Just Giving site http://www.justgiving.com/David-R-Arthur This is a very simple and secure method of sponsorship, where the money goes straight to the charity. For individual donations, Gift Aid is automatically added, thereby increasing the donation by 25%. Alternatively, if you wish to pay by cheque, these can be sent to me at the above address, made payable to ‘Tait Walker 75 Years’
And remember, higher rate tax relief can be obtained on donations for those who pay tax at 40% and for companies, relief can be obtained against corporation tax (we wouldn’t be good accountants if we didn’t tell you that!)
Other than that, wish us luck!!! "
The Terrace Bar is open every day – Friday evenings are especially social from 4.00 pm until 12.00 midnight closing.

Jennings Cumberland (4.0%) - "A superb golden coloured ale"
Tynebank Single Blonde (3.5%) "The single hop and malt combination produces a light ale with a pleasing slightly dry bitterness. Its vanilla and herbal flavours compliment the delicate floral fruit aroma of this simple yet very pleasing blonde."
Brakspear Bitter (3.4%) - "A superb session beer. Amber in colour with a good fruit, hop and malt nose. The initial taste of malt and the well hopped bitterness quickly dissolves into a predominantly bittersweet and fruity finish."
NEW Black Paw Paragon Ale (2.8%) - "Light on alcohol, big on flavour"
and waiting in the cellar
