Saturday 14th with Dave Booth

21st going to longlevens v Tewkesbury

Old Cryptians 24 - 20 All Blues

This game was in the balance right until the end when Cryptians scored a try to seal victory. With good conditions on offer and the pitch in good nick both teams were prepared to run the ball but often let down with the final pass not quite going to hand. Good to see two Vets in action, namely Stack and Lewie, with the latter playing a full game, no wonder the pace was slow. Although very pleased after the final whistle, Lewies' main concern was that a brand new ball had gone missing, but was to hear a remark from your truly "what's that up your jumper eh Lewie". There was no reply but just a glare, then a smile.
I was not on my own this week, the Combination secretary, Mr Martin Slatter has been threatening to join me at some stage during my pilgrimage, so this week duly arrived but unfortunately did not bring any money, that old chestnut! In fact during the game it was like a Combination meeting as we were joined by Cyril and Henry, also both with no money, which cannot be said about some of the Vets, Leigh Smith, Chriss Barton and Adey HD, who were most hospitable in the bar afterwards, as they have now realised to get in the starting XV buying me beer does help, the only downside being that someone "swiped" my pint from the bar, so i "swiped" Lewies' as he was on free beer. Nothing new there. This week I'm off to Longlevens who are hosting Teweksbury, maybe see if Rudgie wants to get in the starting XV.
cheers Dave
