Crusaders warmed up for next week's East Shield Final with an 80 – 10 demolition of Brentwood Eels in the League on Saturday. The two sides meet in the Final next week and Crusaders are hoping to come out on top again.
All of the home team were on top form on Saturday and it would be unfair to pick just one man of the match following such a superb team performance. There were some excellent attacking and defensive skills on show from the men from North Herts. The top pick of the 15 tries scored came with just three minutes remaining in the game. The ball was passed through the hands of half the team in a flowing move from one end of the pitch to the other. The ball eventually was received by full back Julian Kitson who expertly rounded his opposite number to score under the posts.
Try scorers for the Crusaders were Julian Kitson (4), Dave Hatch (2), Simon Hrbek (2), Kyle Hughes (2), Jared Scott, Lewis Copsey, Luke Mongston, Ruiri Shanahan and Vinny Lombardi. Olly Adams was in fine form with the boot scoring 10 goal conversions and putting in some excellent long range kicks into touch.
The Eels were hampered by having no substitutes available so all the of their players had to play a full game. Both of their tries were scored by the hard working centre Mike Hogan with one conversion landed by Charlie Chambers.
This was an excellent all round display by the Crusaders and it left them in good spirits ahead of the Shield Final at St Albans on Saturday.
