North Leigh travelled to Garden City for this eagerly awaited County Cup game. Both teams played the ball around well in the first half but North Leigh created the majority of chances and were very unlucky not to take the lead with Tom Harvey going close on a couple of occasions following some great individual play. The second half got underway and within 5 minutes North Leigh were 2 down thanks to 2 very well taken goals. The lads stayed composed and kept battling and were rewarded after 50 minutes when Dan Townsend latched on to a half clearance to volley the ball home from the edge of the box. North Leigh continued to press and after the hour Dan Townsend equalised making the most of another loose ball. Extra time came and North Leigh were certainly looking the more dangerous and thought they had the game won when Lewis Metcalf was rewarded for his hard work after a long lay off through injury when he fired the ball home with 4 minutes left following good play from Finn Saunders. Garden City to their credit kept going and were awarded a free kick in injury time from a wide left position that was pumped into the box, the ball ran loose with Garden City first to react to equalise with virtually the last kick of the ball. Garden City went on to win the penalty shoot out 4-2.
Good battling performance that deserved the win.
